Gemini integration
Connect STEM shared memory to Gemini
Add STEM as a Gemini custom app with its MCP URL, complete OAuth and test shared context across your supported assistants.
Documentation reviewed . Host verification dates are listed separately.
Tested workflow. An eligible Gemini account using a connected STEM custom app has completed an authorized save, recall from another assistant and recall in a fresh Gemini conversation. This does not establish compatibility with every Gemini model or account.
Check account eligibility
Google currently requires an adult user in the United States, a personal Google account, English and Keep Activity enabled for custom apps. Setup starts in the Gemini web app; Google documents use on web and mobile after connection. Check Google's current custom-app requirements before starting.
Add STEM as a custom app
- On a computer, open Gemini and go to Settings → Connected Apps. Under Custom apps, choose the action to add a custom app.
- Enter
https://awase.dev/stemand continue. STEM supports dynamic client registration, so this setup does not require you to supply a manually issued client secret. - Complete browser OAuth with the STEM account your other assistants use. In a new conversation, select the connected STEM app, then run the save and recall test.
These setup steps follow Google's custom-app guide. Availability, labels and per-action confirmations are controlled by Gemini.
Use the same STEM account in each assistant. Your assistant may have its own subscription requirements, account restrictions and tool approvals. A connection is ready when an authenticated STEM tool succeeds.
If tools are unavailable
Confirm that the custom app is selected for the current conversation. Check Google's current eligibility requirements and the model's tool availability. An unavailable tool message does not by itself prove that STEM authorization failed. Verify with a read-only recall before retrying a write, since a completed save should not be duplicated.
Use context from Claude or ChatGPT
Ask Gemini to recall the project name from STEM after another assistant saves your approved summary. Only saved context transfers; the source chat remains in its original service. See the handoff guide.
Choose what gets remembered
Ask explicitly to save with remember. Optional automatic memory is a separate choice for each eligible OAuth connection in STEM Settings → Memory preferences. The agent must call memory_status with {} before an automatic save, require automaticSavingAllowed: true, and use remember_automatically. Host approvals still apply. Switching to manual does not erase existing memories.
STEM saves selected context supplied by a connected assistant. Connecting does not import earlier conversations, give access to other chats, or guarantee a save on every turn. Do not save passwords, tokens or secrets.
