Quickstart
Start using shared AI memory with STEM
Connect STEM, save a harmless test note with your permission, and recall it from another AI assistant using the same account.
Documentation reviewed . Host verification dates are listed separately.
STEM gives supported AI assistants a shared place to save and retrieve useful context. Start with one small test before moving project decisions, preferences or working notes between assistants.
Connect your assistant
Choose a guide for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor or another MCP client. Sign in to STEM and approve the connection. For a custom connection, the server URL is
https://awase.dev/stem, transport is Streamable HTTP, and authentication is OAuth.Save one harmless test note
Send this prompt in your connected assistant. It explicitly authorizes this one save:
Use STEM to remember this test note: “STEM setup check violet-lantern-742: the sample project color is violet.” Save only this note, with type note and tag connection-test. Show the saved memory ID from the successful tool result.Wait for a successful
rememberresult. If the tool fails, resolve the error before retrying; a repeated successful call can create another memory.Recall it somewhere else
Connect a second supported assistant to the same STEM account, or start a fresh conversation with the first assistant. Enable STEM in that conversation and ask:
Use STEM to recall “STEM setup check violet-lantern-742”. Show the saved note and memory ID. Do not save anything.A successful recall of the note and its saved ID demonstrates that the context is available across those connected conversations. This does not copy the source conversation into the destination assistant.
Continue with your own context
Save a concise decision, project status or preference you want another assistant to use. Include enough detail to stand on its own. For example: “For the garden website, use metric units and show the opening hours on the contact page.” See how to share context between assistants.
To remove the test later, explicitly ask the assistant to use forget with the exact ID returned by your save. Removing a memory also removes its STEM links; it does not erase copies already shown in conversations.
Choose what gets remembered
Ask explicitly to save with remember. Optional automatic memory is a separate choice for each eligible OAuth connection in STEM Settings → Memory preferences. The agent must call memory_status with {} before an automatic save, require automaticSavingAllowed: true, and use remember_automatically. Host approvals still apply. Switching to manual does not erase existing memories.
STEM saves selected context supplied by a connected assistant. Connecting does not import earlier conversations, give access to other chats, or guarantee a save on every turn. Do not save passwords, tokens or secrets.
If the test does not work
- No tools: finish OAuth, enable STEM for the current conversation, and refresh the client's tool list.
- No matching note: check that both clients authorized the same STEM account and that the save returned success.
- Storage full: existing memories remain available to recall and export. Review storage in STEM.
- Authorization error: use the client's reconnect action and complete the browser authorization flow. Do not paste passwords or private keys into chat.
